    LIANZA OLDER SERVICES NETWORK
    Wednesdays, Bi-monthly @ 1PM

LIANZA is pleased to offer a time and space for librarians and library staff to connect in a peer-to-peer network. This network aims to provide support from within the profession for anyone engaging with older people in your community. We invite you to jump online on the last Wednesday of every second month and to bring your ideas and questions to share with colleagues around the country. From working to become dementia friendly to providing library services that respond to the needs of a growing older population as the  Boomers and Gen X  continue towards retirement and beyond. Similarly to the widely successful LIANZA CYS Network, we will need you to help identify topics, suggest speakers and share your ideas and successes. Where will this take us? Let’s try it and see what happens!

The first network meeting will be Wednesday Nov 24 at 1pm and we will start with hearing from libraries that are beginning the journey to becoming dementia friendly.

LIANZA COVID MEETUP – Assisting library users with vaccine passports
      Thursday December 2, 2021 @ 11AM

Many businesses and services will soon require proof of vaccination and people are may be finding it difficult to obtain their vaccination passports. That’s where libraries are stepping in to help. There are real challenges in providing this support to our communities. However, innovative approaches are available and are being used to assist people seeking help from libraries.

Digital Inclusion Alliance Aotearoa (DIAA) has developed and shared some online guidance  DS41 My Health & My Vaccine Pass and libraries are developing resources.

We invite you to join colleagues to discuss how your library is helping people get their passport.

This is a semi-facilitated space to share challenges, ideas and solutions.
Everyone is welcome – whatever part of the library and information sector you work in !

This is the third COVID meetup that LIANZA has offered this year. It builds on the Libraries in the time of COVID sector kōrero from our recent conference.

The ideas shared in this event will be collated and made available to participants.

LIANZA CYS Network – Engaging students in evaluation co-design of their school library
          Tuesday December 7 @ 2PM

Join Esther Casey from Sylvia Park School in Auckland to find out more about her experience on the LIANZA Evaluation and Impact programme. Esther will share the work she did with Year 4-6 ākonga or students to discover which of the resources, services and programmes in their school library, Te Puna Ngoi, made the biggest difference to the ākonga in the school’s target aspirations of hauora (wellbeing) and pakirehua (inquiry). Esther will share how she engaged the students in the planning, prototyping and testing of the evaluation. Esther says, “The results were not surprising to me, but provide valuable evidence of the importance of the school library beyond the more obvious aims of reading promotion and achievement.” Come and hear what the students valued in their school library and how Esther plans to share the results with the school community. You will have the chance to share your experiences about evaluation with kids, ask questions about the co-design process, and brainstorm ideas for evaluation in your library setting.

LIANZA CYS Network – Creating and running a Teen Advisory Board
          Postponed to 2022 – tbc

Deborah Hart at Western Bay of Plenty District Libraries and her work with teens got rave reviews from Glenys Bichan, SLANZA President in our September meet-up. We reached out to Deborah and asked her to share her experiences running and developing a Teen Advisory Board, working with students at intermediate and high school ages). Tune in to hear how to set up a TAB, engage with your teens, create a sense of value, develop collaborative work that is meaningful while being useful to you as the librarian, and work with your local community. There will be opportunities to share your own experiences and advice with the group, and to ask questions – let’s all learn from each other.

Deborah is children and teens librarian at Western Bay of Plenty District Libraries – Te Puke. She runs a Teen Advisory Board (affectionately called ‘The Tabbies’) with 14 students. This enthusiastic group of teens participate in activities within the community as well as developing and running programmes in the library while learning important leadership, team, and event running skills.

We are seeking more topics  so please send your ideas to ana@lianza.org.nz

LIANZA COVID MEETUP – Ensuring Access
            Thursday December 09, 2021 @ 11AM

Libraries want to be inclusive ... and libraries also want to contribute to strong and healthy communities.

            • So how will any COVID restrictions affect people who want to use libraries?
            • Who will be most affected by these restrictions?
            • What can libraries do to ensure access?

The new COVID protection framework has been released and libraries are making crucial decisions about how to operate at red, orange and green traffic lights  https://covid19.govt.nz/alert-levels-and-updates/covid-19-protection-framework/.

What CAN libraries be doing to reduce the impact on people who may be excluded from public spaces like libraries?

What innovative solutions can be provided for people reluctant or unable to visit physical library spaces during COVID?

What digital and non-contact services are libraries planning to make available to their communities?

We began this conversation at the LIANZA conference in the Libraries in the time of COVID kōrero.
Join us again to share challenges, ideas and solutions with your colleagues.

Everyone is welcome – whatever part of the library and information sector you work in! This is our fourth COVID meetup this year. The ideas shared will be collated and the recording will also be made available to participants.

Please use the register button to RSVP and the Zoom link and password for the session will be emailed to you.
