Workshop 2: The "So What?" of Libraries - Developing Next-Generation Measures, Metrics, Impact, and Evaluation

In a changing world, traditional numbers like "books on loan" or "visitors through the door" won't cut it - but nor will vague or ill-defined statements of worth. How do we capture and evidence complex relationships across physical and digital spaces?

  • How can we develop measures that better reflect our circumstances and mission?
  • What measures can we use to capture the second-order "knock-on" effects by which libraries benefit those they serve?
  • How can we provide useful, authentic metrics to our stakeholders without gaming the system and "playing to the targets"?

This interactive session will focus on developing, applying, and advocating for new measures of impact in any library sector - from public libraries to those serving schools, tertiary education, or specialist institutions.

Participants will explore ways of measuring second-order impacts in libraries, richer forms of quantitative evaluation, and how to define a "value-creating system" which specifies the exact difference your library makes to the ecosystem in which it operates.

This workshop will be led by Dr Matt Finch (UK) and Brendan Fitzgerald (Australia).

If you have registered and paid but are unable to attend then you are welcome to substitute someone to take your place. Please contact us with the new attendees name and details as soon as possible. You can make substitutions up until one week prior to the workshop.

Please email officeadmin@lianza.org.nz if you wish to amend or cancel your registration. A full refund is available up until two weeks before the event. (12/09/2019) No refund can be given for cancellations received after this date.
