LIANZA WEBINAR - WHAT IS WAI 262?
Wednesday September 30, 1PM.

LIANZA are delighted that Trevor Himona, Principal Advisor at Archives New Zealand Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga, is presenting this webinar (wānanga-workshop) on Wai 262 Te Pae Tāwhiti.

What is Wai 262? It was the Waitangi Tribunal’s first “whole of government” inquiry, examining the policy areas of more than 20 government agencies and to directly consider what the Treaty relationship should look like after the settlement of historical claims.

Why is it important? Successfully resolving Wai 262 issues will strengthen the Māori-Crown relationship and national identity. Strengthening Māori cultural and identity, it will also unlock opportunities for greater economic, social and cultural development as well as supporting the public service reform.

This Wānanga Workshop will raise your understanding of Wai 262 issues and fits into a series of workshops – this, the first, sets the scene from a Te Ao Māori lens and tests staff knowledge; the second will look at the Tribunal’s findings regarding Wai 262 and our cultural institutions; the third will seek to develop an organisational response to this Wai 262.

Prior to attending please watch this Wai 262 documentary for a Te Ao Māori insight into Wai 262: https://www.nzonscreen.com/title/wai-262
