LIANZA CAT SIG PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ONLINE TALK SERIES
Thursday September 7-28, 11.00 AM - 12.00 NOON

Please join LIANZA CAT SIG for weekly Zoom presentations during September 2023. Beginning on Thursday September 7, the series continues on Thursday mornings throughout September. This year the talks will focus on MarcEdit and the new RDA Toolkit and are open to everyone, whatever your role or level of knowledge.

Sessions will last for up to an hour, including time for Q&A. Please see the schedule below:

Thursday 7 September
LIANZA CAT SIG AGM and ORDAC update

Presenters:

  • Joanne Rowan (LIANZA CAT SIG Chair. Scholarly Content Advisor, Libraries and Learning Services, The University of Auckland
  • Anoushka McGuire (ORDAC New Zealand Representative. Team Leader, Cataloging Team 1, National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa)

    Thursday 14 September
    Panel discussion on using MarcEdit

    Facilitator:

    • Joanne Rowan (LIANZA CAT SIG Chair. Scholarly Content Advisor, Libraries and Learning Services, The University of Auckland)

    Presenters and panellists:

    • Natalie Williams (Collection Description Librarian, National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga O Aotearoa)
    • Leonard Clough (Cataloguer & Library Management System Specialist, Libraries and Community Spaces, Wellington City Council) and Celeste Mackintosh (Digital Services Librarian, Libraries and Community Spaces, Wellington City Council)
    • Ann Ryan (Cataloguing Manager – Development, Wheelers)

If you want to learn how Marcedit can work for you in streamlining changes to bibliographic records, this is the session for you.  We will have three presentations outlining how MarcEdit is used in three very different library environments followed by questions.

    • Use MarcEdit to manage e-resource records, from using managed tasks to fine-tune vendor-supplied records to bulk editing MARC records to search and replace incorrect/outdated information.
    • Customize batches of records for your library using one-for-one data transformation or via a conditional replacement - depending on the presence/coding of data within the bibliographic record.
    • Using the export tab-delimited function to investigate problems in a set of records and using regular expressions to find and replace characters in control fields.

    Thursday 21 September
The value of title proper: using the Official RDA Toolkit and NLNZ policy statements to find a value for an RDA element

    Presenter:

    • Charlotte Christensen (Senior Collection Description Specialist, National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa)

    Thursday 28 September
The Official RDA Toolkit: so, how do you actually catalogue a book?

    Presenter:

    • Ebe Kartus (Team Leader, Serials Cataloguing Team, National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa)
