LIANZA RESEARCH SIG - THE PLEASURES AND PITFALLS OF PUBLISHING YOUR RESEARCH
Wednesday May 10, 12NOON - 1PM

A lot of great research is conducted by information professionals in their workplaces. Often this is presented at conferences or internally, but not published or made more widely available. This means it is essentially lost and does not benefit the wider sector.

This webinar will discuss the key points to take into consideration when writing up research and crafting an article for publication, including motivations for, impediments to, and the rewards of publishing. Amanda Cossham and Maja Krtalić will cover the following topics:

  • Why write for publication? The craft, the motivation, rewards
  • How to get started
  • Selecting a journal
  • What contribution your paper brings
  • Outline of a paper
  • Practitioner perspectives on publishing
  • Pleasures and pitfalls.

Dr Amanda Cossham is a principal academic staff member at Open Polytechnic | Te Pukenga and the Bachelor of Library and Information Studies degree leader. She is the regional editor for two scholarly journals, with experience in publishing, reviewing, and editing.

Dr Maja Krtalić is an associate professor in the School of Information Management at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington with experience in publishing research articles, reviewing and editing for scholarly journals.
