LIANZA WEBINAR - NATIONAL LIBRARY REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL POLICY
Wednesday April 19, 1PM - 2PM

Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa National Library is developing a policy for removing and disposing of collection items. This will sit alongside other important policies that guide their collection management activities. This new policy will inform how they make recommendations to the Minister of Internal Affairs about items to be removed (or deaccessioned) from their collections in the future and how they dispose of these deaccessioned items.

The public engagement period for this policy will run for six weeks from April 3, 2023, to May 12, 2023.

Join Mark Crookston as he introduces the draft policy and the ways you and your library can contribute feedback. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion after Mark’s presentation. Read more about the policy here (which went live on Monday April 3)

Mark Crookston is Director, Content Services at the National Library of New Zealand. Former leadership roles in the sector include Associate Chief Librarian in the Alexander Turnbull Library, Principal Advisor to the Chief Archivist at Archives NZ, Secretary-General of the Pacific Branch of the International Council on Archives, and Programme Director Documentary Heritage at the National Library of New Zealand. Mark loves developing sustainable collaborations, connecting people and communities to their histories, and managing collections that support societal memory, people’s rights, accountability, and scholarship.
