LIANZA WEBINAR - TE MANA O TE KUPU
Thursday October 6, 1.30PM-2.30PM

In this webinar you’ll hear about the initiatives to engage children and young people with reading for pleasure and well-being in Communities of Readers – Pūtoi Rito projects in very different communities, across the motu.

Crissi Blair and Bridget Schaumann are capability facilitators for the National Library’s Services to Schools. Crissi has been involved in projects at Huntly College, and with a Kahui Ako of five primary schools in West Auckland, with a focus on teachers as readers. Bridget has been involved in a South Dunedin Project, working with whole suburbs to share books and the message of reading with young children as a benefit for well-being.

These are both very different projects with different focuses and ways of delivering books into the hands of young people and teachers. The South Dunedin project has so far shared more than 16,000 books with children aged between 3 – 7 years and now, in its second phase, is sharing books with children up to the age of 13. They’ll talk about these projects, share their experiences and chat about the joys and challenges of this work.

Crissi Blair is a Facilitator, National Capability, for National Library’s Services to Schools based in Auckland. She has worked in primary and intermediate school libraries and now loves connecting with schools and helping their libraries and reading communities grow and thrive. You will often find her talking and writing about ‘the glory of the books’.

Bridget Schaumann is also a Facilitator, National Capability, for National Library’s Services to Schools and is based in Dunedin. She’s worked in secondary schools in Otago for a really long time. She’s involved in lots of bookish activities in Ōtepoti, she’s a reading and school library enthusiast and loves connecting and championing books and reading in different ways.
