LIANZA TELSIG & CAUL: ADVANCING OPEN ACCESS THROUGH PROCUREMENT AND STRATEGY
Wednesday July 13 at 12NOON - 1PM

Over the past several years, the Council of Australian University Librarians has committed to progressing the open access agenda through strategic procurement activities and its Advancing Open Scholarship strategic program. Since 2019, CAUL has pursued transformative agreements with publishers and has to date negotiated 15 transformative agreements for Australian university libraries. The read and publish agreements include deals with small, mid-sized, and large publishers, reflecting CAUL's commitment to support a diverse open publishing environment. In tandem with the strategic procurement program, CAUL's Advancing Open Scholarship program has focused on strategic advocacy at a national level in addition to undertaking practical projects that support open research practice. In this presentation, Angus Cook (Director, Content Procurement) and Kate Davis (Director, Strategy & Analytics) will provide an update on CAUL's recent work in the open-access space.

About the presenters:

Angus Cook is the Director, Content Procurement at the Council of Australian University Librarians. He has a strong commercial background having worked for publisher and library systems providers for many years. Angus leads the CAUL Content Procurement Service and has worked alongside other CAUL stakeholders in delivering new Read and Publish agreements to the CAUL community.

Dr Kate Davis is the Director, Strategy & Analytics at the Council of Australian University Librarians. Kate has a background in theoretical and applied library and information research, library and information education, and digital learning and teaching. She works across CAUL's four strategic programs and leads CAUL's analytics portfolio.
