An Expansive Approach to Readers’ Advisory (RA) in Libraries

The Readers Advisory (RA) role of librarians is changing, but still very much needed. There is stiff competition for taking the time to spend reading or listening these days and a customer who leaves the library is almost impossible to retrieve. Technology allows opportunities for greater reach, but perhaps we have to think outside the box about how we use RA in our libraries to keep people engaged with their books. And are traditional genres still relevant? Do they offer a wide enough package for today’s readers?

We will refresh and expand the way you approach RA for your customers and your staff, by using food as an analogy. Leave with recipes and ideas for useful resources and library displays. Bon appetite!

This is designed to be a part day event so attendees can also travel there and back on the day.

There is no charge for this event, with a limit of 40 attendees.

Facilitators: Jean Rivett and Maclean Barker (of Ōamaru Public Library)
