Are you a Library Assistant? Or, do you know a Library Assistant?

Then, make sure to mark Friday August 2nd in your diary and plan to attend the Library Assistant's Day being organised by LIANZA Te Upoko o te Ika a Maui regional community.

The day is being held at the National Library of New Zealand, in Wellington following the LIANZA Te Upoko o te Ika a Maui’s AGM, so start planning to come along and get fuelled up for your day of adventure and exploration.

The theme is Explore – “The idea of explore can be for library assistants who might want to learn more to work out what area they might want to work in, or what they want to try next, but also for those who are happy in what they are doing and just want to mentally explore what others do, or gain understanding/context of Te Ao o te whare pukapuka. But also, in working in libraries, we explore everyday."

The morning tours will be busy with tours of the Alexander Turnbull Library, Victoria University of Wellington Law Library, Pipitea campus and Victoria University of Wellington Commerce Library, Pipitea campus and the Parliamentary Library.

The afternoon will be filled with interesting speakers including  Kat Cuttriss; Divisional Manager Libraries - Hutt City Libraries; Shane O’Connor; Technology Portfolio Manager - Hutt City Libraries; Cellia Joe Olsen - Te Rōpū Whakahau Tumuaki and Jennifer Klarwill; Principal Adviser Information Service – Department of Corrections.  Each speaker will discuss;

  • What they do – a day in their working life
  • How they got the position and what skills they need
  • Their career journeys

Chantelle Smith from the PSA and Rachel Esson, LIANZA President and Ana Pickering, LIANZA Executive Director will be talking about pay equity.

The day will end with a fun interactive workshop about STEM programming with Wellington City Libraries .

We will be providing lunch and afternoon tea.
